Clarity Comes From Taking Action, Not From Sitting On Your Ass

0

The last few days have been a time of major epiphanies in my business. In the last three days I’ve gotten so much clarity on the direction I now want to go, on what I want to offer, on who I want to offer it to, and on what I want to be doing going forward.

So often when we’re feeling stuck about something or unsure of what to do next, we just sit around and wait. We somehow convince ourselves that the best course of action is no action at all.

Which is total bullshit.

Clarity never, ever comes from sitting around doing nothing. Clarity comes from taking action.

Now you may not be sure what action to take, and in that case, you just have to connect with yourself and ask, “what’s the next action I should take?” and then trust that whatever action comes up, that’s the action you should take.

There is no right or wrong here. Especially when you come from a place of alignment, feeling good and having a high-vibe energy.

It doesn’t have to make sense. It doesn’t have to be linear. You don’t have to have clarity on how that action will get you to your end result.

You just have to trust and take action.

As you do, more actions and more inspired thoughts and ideas will come to you. And then the more you take those actions and act on those ideas, the clearer and clearer things will get for you.

Until one day you’ll just be sitting around–after days, weeks, months and even years of action–and BOOM! Total clarity.

Everything will make sense to you. The dots that had been previously laid will connect. The journey you’ve been on up ’til this moment will give you hindsight you couldn’t have gotten any other way.

This is why the journey matters more than the destination.

The journey is when you get the clarity, the inspired ideas and take the actions that eventually lead you to the destination. And the experience getting to the destination, that’s the fun part.

Because once you’re there, you will barely have time to enjoy it before you’re focused on wanting more, more, more.

There will always be more. Desire never dies. And so there’s no point in getting yourself all wrapped up in wanting a specific end result, because when you get there, you will find something else to want instead.

The achievement of the destination will spark another desire in you. A bigger desire. A more powerful one. Something you want more than the destination you thought you wanted all along.

For example, I wanted to publish a novel. That was my dream from age 11. But when I finally reached that destination and published my novel in 2015, arriving there didn’t feel nearly as amazing as I thought it would, because 1) it suddenly felt totally normal and like ‘this is who I am,’ and 2) I suddenly realized I didn’t just want to publish a novel; I wanted to have my stories turned into movies.

And then that realization sparked a bigger desire in me: for a career as a Hollywood screenwriter.

Suddenly the place I thought I wanted to get; the place I’d been working toward and resisting and sabotaging myself about and procrastinating on; the destination I had finally arrived at, no longer mattered. Because now there was something bigger.

This is why you have to learn to enjoy the journey you get to go on to arrive at your destination. This is why you must pause along the way to smell the roses and to see the sights and to appreciate the view.

The journey is all we ever really have. The destinations are just stopping points along the way to uncovering an even bigger desire and dream.

We always think it’s the destination we really want. And while we do want the destination, what we actually want is to feel how we think we’ll feel when we arrive at said-destination.

So if you can just figure out how to make yourself feel those things right now, not only would you no longer need to reach the destination in order to feel how you want to feel, but you’d actually reach it a lot faster because you’d be feeling like and embodying who you’d be if you had already reached the destination.

That’s acting as if. That’s feeling as if you already have the thing you desire. That’s clarity of the greatest kind.

And that can only come through taking action.
